- Welcome to the SONY FTR Demo CD!
-
- Sony Electronic Publishing Co.
- Publishers Data Service
- (408) 372-2812
-
-
- This demo presents two recently released CD-ROM multimedia products
- under our FTR (Full-Text Retrieval) software. We start with a QuickTime
- movie for Windows presentation and a simple audiovisual slideshow
- describing how to use the software. After viewing these you are
- encouraged to try the two FTR demos: The Mayo Clinic Family Health Book
- and the Particle Atlas/Electronic Edition. These are full-featured
- versions of the actual products, but with a reduced multimedia database.
- Although not the complete products, you should find them quite enjoyable!
-
-
- HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
-
- You can run all the software on this CD-ROM if you have an MPC-compatible
- computer. More specifically:
-
- 1. To run the slideshow "instructions" and the FTR programs you need
- the following equipment:
-
- 80386- or 80486-type personal computer with 4 Megabytes RAM memory
- or more
-
- MPC-compatible CD-ROM drive (preferrably with audio)
-
- Windows 3.0 or better
-
- VGA card (preferrably with a 256-color software driver for Windows)
- and monitor
-
- 4 Megabytes of hard disk space (or more, for virtual memory usage)
-
- Stereo headphones or speakers
-
- 2. To run the QuickTime movies you also need:
-
- An MPC-compatible sound card.
- (Be sure the speakers play audio from both the CD-ROM drive and the
- sound card)
-
-
- INSTALLATION PROCEDURES:
-
- To install the demo programs and the QuickTime for Windows overviews,
- run SETUP.EXE from the CD while running Windows. To do this, pull down
- the File menu in the Program Manager and select Run. When prompted for
- a program to execute, type d:\SETUP, where "d" is the drive letter for
- your CD-ROM drive.
-
- Installation Tips:
-
- 1) SETUP.EXE will install QuickTime for Windows onto your system (if
- you do not already have it). To run the QuickTime demo, you'll
- need an MPC-compliant computer. While QuickTime for Windows doesn't
- require a sound card, you won't get any audio without one.
-
- 2) While QuickTime for Windows requires your speakers to be hooked to
- your sound card, the slideshow and Mayo Clinic Demo plays it's audio
- through your CD-ROM drive. Thus, you'll need to hook up speakers or
- headphones to your CD-ROM drive in order to hear Mayo's audio. Note
- that some sound cards have a connection to the CD-ROM drive so you only
- have to hook your headphones to the card. Also, the Mayo product demo
- uses separate monophonic audio from channels A & B on the CD-ROM. You
- are given an opportunity to test this functionality using the Options
- menu while running that demo.
-
- 3) For the best results, your video card should be capable of displaying
- 256 colors at once. If the QuickTime movies don't seem to have much
- detail or the "dissolving body" in the Health Book looks really weird,
- you might be running Windows in 16-color mode. Use the Windows' SETUP
- program to install a 256-color display driver. Your display card vendor
- should have supplied you with the proper driver diskette.
